Vacancies in Spain

Javier Bustamante

Associate Director, Projects, Insurance

What is it that you do?
I have supported the Business Development and Sales teams across several verticals since Cognizant started its activity in Spain, although lately I have joined the Insurance practice. Landing in a new country means you automatically become a Jack-of-all-trades. Clients are always eager to hear about fresh ideas and new thinking... and that's precisely where Cognizant stands out!

What do you like about working for Cognizant?
You have probably heard this many times about Cognizant, but it's absolutely true: the atmosphere of entrepreneurship. And this is something that exists across different roles and functions: we are all empowered to make things happen, or challenge others’ ideas with our own. Apart from that, the human touch and working closely with such a skilled team means you are embarked on a non-stop learning journey, building a compelling career track.

A day in my life
A normal day for me does not quite follow what we can call a normal office work pattern. My agenda is usually dictated by our clients, which means meetings, presentations, partner events, etc. Driving business growth means I am also accountable for the delivery, so I interact quite a lot with our global operations centres in India and the US, which means being flexible enough to accommodate different time zones and bridge cultural and language gaps in such a dynamic world.

What would you recommend to people who are considering a career at Cognizant?
Being one of the most admired companies in the world means that if you have strong work ethics, are a self-learner, are not afraid of taking up new challenges, don't like to stick to a comfort zone, and are ready to come on board the fastest paced industry, then Cognizant is the place to develop your career, whether you are a young graduate or a seasoned professional.

Marina Fernandez

IOS Developer

What is it that you do?
I work in the native mobile applications development section that Cognizant is setting up in Spain. In particular, I am part of the team specialised in native applications for iOS devices. Our section is integrated into the Digital Engagement Practice unit, which includes several disciplines aimed at providing solutions that allow organisations to interact with their employees, customers and partners in a digital way, which is growing and becoming stronger in Spain.

What do you like about working for Cognizant?
Working here means having new challenges every day: technology evolves very fast and it affects our lifestyle and way of working, and Cognizant not only tries to adapt quickly to these changes and help other organisations to achieve it, but also to innovate. In addition, Cognizant knows this is possible when you can rely on your capabilities and potential, hence it allows you to keep training and improving your skills. We have a nice working environment, we make a good team and we can meet any challenge related to mobile technologies that comes our way.

A day in my life
As a part of a constantly growing team, I currently spend much of my working time in meetings with my colleagues: we develop ideas that allow us to know the skills and experience that each of us possesses, and learn to coordinate in order to complete tasks successfully. At the same time, on daily basis I also dedicate some time to keeping myself up to date and improving my technical and soft skills.

What would you recommend to people who are considering a career at Cognizant?
If you are the kind of person who likes to prove yourself and keep evolving, this is a good place for you. Cognizant is a large company with worldwide presence that can offer you many possibilities both in Spain and outside, whether you are looking for mobility at work, or getting involved from Spain in projects that are developed and deployed abroad. Moreover, Cognizant lets you define your career path, and with your initiative and effort, grow within your area.

Tarini Dash

Consultant, EAS IPM

What is it that you do?
I am working as a Pega Senior System Architect in the Integrated process management department for one of the leading international Life Sciences companies in Spain. Currently I am leading a team of five developers, and also training junior staff to be efficient in Pega. For this customer, I am also working on Agile enablement and automation of manual tasks.

What do you like about working for Cognizant?
Cognizant provides an individualised development plan that not only supports long-term career goals, but also helps fulfil value and competency-based development goals. I strongly believe that Cognizant trusts and empowers its employees and acknowledges the importance of personal development. Cognizant provides a multitude of opportunities across industries and technologies, with new challenges every day.

A day in my life
Every day when I start my work, I love to have some challenges in terms of new development or bugs. In this way, I try to evaluate for myself and simultaneously improve my skills. Apart from this daily routine, I help junior staff and other teammates to enhance their technical skills to optimise the team output. At the end of the day what matters for me is the increased quality of new products and optimal customer experience.

What would you recommend to people who are considering a career at Cognizant?
Cognizant provides employees with an opportunity to decide their own career path and opportunities to work across different countries around the globe. If you are passionate about new challenges, you are in the right place. Come and join us, and Keep Challenging!

André Claesson

Windows Phone Developer

What is it that you do?
I am working in Cognizant as a Senior Developer in the mobile area. That means my main task is developing apps and services for smartphones. My area of expertise is on the Windows platform and all devices supported by it.

What do you like about working for Cognizant?
I find the work interesting and challenging, and I like that the company really cares about its employees. I have never worked for a company with such a big focus on education as Cognizant has. It is up to you which direction you want to take.

A day in my life
I generally start my day by going through and setting up my goals for the day. If anything is not clear I communicate with my team or the current project client. A project within Cognizant can sometimes be spread across the globe, and that means some parts of your team are located in another office or even another country. The majority of my time is spent on designing, coding and documenting applications.

What would you recommend to people who are considering a career at Cognizant?
I would say it is a really good choice if you would like to work for a big company with all the different opportunities that come with it. It is a great place to learn things you don’t already know, and given the size of the company there is always someone who can help you if you get stuck.

Kanika Puri

Front End Developer

What is it that you do?
I am part of the Digital Engagement Practice division in Cognizant. We develop and provide mobile and web solutions to our clients. Currently I am working as a web developer for a leading financial institution situated in Belgium.

What do you like about working for Cognizant?
I joined Cognizant as a trainee in India in 2012 and it has been a great journey since then. What I really like about Cognizant is that it empowers its employees for personal as well as professional growth. The Cognizant motto "Keep Challenging" is something I wanted from a company with respect to my growth. I have been challenged with different roles and projects. Aside from the trainings for different technologies and practices, there is table football, etc. for employees to let loose and bond in their free time.

A day in my life
All my days are generally different from each other depending on which phase of the project is currently being executed. But mostly my day involves coding, since that is my primary role. On a weekly or bi-weekly basis, there might be a couple of short meetings where everybody shares the status of their work and/or retrospect about the previous sprint, as the project is based on Agile methodology.

What would you recommend to people who are considering a career at Cognizant?
Cognizant is a great place to work to explore your areas of interest and grow. If you like to learn and challenge yourself, Cognizant is probably the right place for you!

Rubén Navarro

Associate, Projects, Life Sciences

What is it that you do?
I joined Cognizant through the Graduate Programme over 4 years ago, starting as a Business Analyst and working my way up to be a Project Manager at the Spanish affiliate of one of the biggest Global Biopharmaceutical companies in the world. I manage different projects on their Learning Platform, which provides services to users across the globe. In addition to supporting the client, I work with my Cognizant colleagues from the Business Development team, helping them on the Spanish expansion of Cognizant, specifically in the Life Sciences sector.

What do you like about working for Cognizant?
There are many things that I love about working for Cognizant, but if I was to choose only one I would say the passion. In Cognizant, I truly see passion among my colleagues with their day-to-day duties. Working at Cognizant also gives you the opportunity to develop your own career path, you always have a voice to say what you think, and you have that voice heard in order to take the necessary actions. Last but not least, at Cognizant you actually feel like that you are part of a Digital Transformation technology company, with access to the latest market trends, as well as a real alignment to your job role.

A day in my life
Every new day is a new story at Cognizant. I usually start my day early, enjoying a big glass of orange juice and reading the latest news on my smartphone. When I get to work, I usually start by cleaning my inbox and answering emails that don't take long to answer. I then focus on the important tasks in hand since I am more energetic at this time of the day. Some of these tasks include workshops, reviewing and updating documentation, project scoping and controlling, and helping the team with their duties. Since my team members are located in India, Europe and the US, I face many challenges with the time difference, so I usually try to schedule the meetings according to their time zones. Very often I finish late because of our US colleagues, but they are always sensitive about our evenings and try to finish everything before 6 pm our time. After work I always try to practise some sport, so that I can free my mind for a little while and recharge my batteries for the next day!

What would you recommend to people who are considering a career at Cognizant?
Cognizant creates the best possible win-win scenario. Cognizant cares about what you like and what you are good at. If you enjoy your job, you will be able to reach milestones that otherwise would be very difficult to accomplish. At Cognizant Spain specifically, you have the ideal scenario, the best of a start-up collaboration along with a big company behind you that will give you the tools, resources and opportunities that anybody would love to have access to in order to develop themselves, both professionally and personally.

Leonel Foggia

Visual Designer

What is it that you do?
I am part of Cognizant's Continental Europe UX/Design team. I weave iconography, typography, colour, space and texture together to help client partners to deliver their brand promise. One of my main priorities is to delight users with designs that inspire, engage and excite them, relying on user-centred design principles to produce high-quality visuals from concept to execution.

What do you like about working for Cognizant?
What I like most about being part of Cognizant is the feeling of being surrounded by the energy to challenge status quo, to do things differently and better. I like to see my growth as a professional, but most importantly as a person, having the opportunity to move across different locations, seeing different cultures and facing new challenges.

A day in my life
I like to start my day with a high-protein breakfast to load some energy, as I will definitely be using it for the rest of the day. A working day at Cognizant is always different: new projects, last-minute meetings and new requirements. But what remains the same is my morning coffee with a colleague and my design mindset, which always seeks to create something new and eye-catching.
What would you recommend to people who consider a career at Cognizant?
If you like to challenge the status quo, if you have an entrepreneurial spirit, if you like to travel the world and face new challenges, then for you Cognizant is definitely the place to work.
